3mm galvanised wire is a metal wire with a zinc coating on the surface of low-carbon steel wire. It is produced using either electroplating or hot-dip galvanizing processes. 3mm is a medium-thickness specification, offering higher hardness and load-bearing capacity. It also features a silvery-white appearance and good rust resistance.

Applications

Construction and Decoration

Used for binding and securing reinforcing steel bars in buildings, fixing pipes in buildings, or weaving and welding them into fall protection nets and isolation fences. Also used as the core material for barbed and razor wire.

Agriculture and Animal Husbandry

It can be used to secure agricultural greenhouse plastic films, maintain seedlings in fruit and vegetable gardens, provide climbing frames for vines and flowers, or be processed into chicken coops and farm fences.

Wire Mesh and Protection

3mm medium-thickness wire can be used as raw material for grassland fencing, or for fences for medium-sized animals such as goats, or for cages such as dog cages, and for weaving gabion mesh for slope protection.

Crafts and Everyday Uses

Metal handcrafted and decorative skeletons, such as the structures for Christmas trees, music festival headdresses, wall hangings, and hanging baskets, are also used for bundling goods at recycling centers and for springs in flexible wheels.

Industrial Auxiliary Uses

Securing parts and wrapping protective pipes in small machinery manufacturing; also used as temporary traction ropes for small equipment and conveyor belt edge positioning ropes. It can also be used to bundle heavy goods such as steel, wood, and pipes, and to make bag sealing lines.

Select the Zinc Layer According to the Use

• General Use: 15-150 g/m², used for bundling, braiding, and general fastening. Customizable upon request.
• Barbed Wire/Razor Wire: 20-40 g/m², primarily used for guardrails and the tops of isolation nets.
• Armored Cable: 30-70 g/m², used as the steel wire armor layer of cables.
• Mattress Spring: 15-30 g/m², used for mattress springs.
• Rope: 30-100+ g/m², primarily used for ship cables, slings, etc.

Two Types of Galvanizing

Electrogalvanizing

The process utilizes an electrolytic process to deposit a zinc layer. The zinc content ranges from 10 to 150 g/m², resulting in a smooth, uniform, and shiny appearance.

Hot-dip galvanizing

Immersed in molten zinc, a zinc-iron alloy layer is applied to the surface. The zinc content ranges from 60 to 275 g/m², resulting in a relatively rough, grayish appearance.

Key Differences

Hot-dip galvanizing typically provides a much thicker zinc layer than electrogalvanizing, resulting in stronger corrosion resistance. However, the surface is relatively rough, making it generally suitable for large items such as steel sheets, coils, and strips. Electrogalvanizing is more suitable for galvanizing smaller items such as wire, bolts, screws, and wire mesh.

Purchase Notes

(1) Zinc Grade: Choose between standard and thickened zinc coatings depending on the severity of the corrosive environment.

(2) Material: Typically low-carbon steel, but medium-carbon steel can be selected for higher strength.

(3) Surface Treatment: In addition to glossy finishes, PVC-coated galvanized steel wire is also available for added protection and color.

Common Packaging Forms

Coils

The most basic and common packaging method. They are in a circular bundle, without a reel. Weights range from 5kg to 1 ton.

Spools / Reels

Wire is wound onto a cylindrical wooden or plastic reel. They are convenient to use, but cost slightly more than coils.

Bundles/Pancake Coils

Short lengths of wire are rolled into a small, flat “pancake” shape and then secured with a cable tie or string. They are compact and lightweight, typically weighing 1kg, 5kg, or 10kg.
