How is the 9-gauge GI Wire Manufactured?

The base material is low-carbon steel with a carbon content of 0.05%-0.25%. The iron wire is softened through a series of processes including cold drawing, pickling, tempering, and high-temperature annealing, followed by galvanizing.

  • Hot-dip galvanizing: Degreasing, pickling, and phosphating followed by high-temperature galvanizing. The coating is thick and offers strong rust resistance, but the surface finish is relatively low.
  • Electro-galvanizing: Degreasing, pickling, and activation followed by electrolytic deposition of zinc. The zinc layer is thinner, the surface is bright, the coating thickness is controllable, but the corrosion resistance is relatively weaker.
