Classification and features of stainless steel cables

(1) Classification by material

  • 304: General purpose, good corrosion resistance.
  • 304L: Low carbon version of 304, resistant to intergranular corrosion, with better welding performance.
  • 316: Contains molybdenum (Mo), resistant to seawater corrosion.
  • 316L: Low carbon, resistant to intergranular corrosion.
  • 310: High temperature resistance (1000°C+).
  • 321: High temperature oxidation resistance (800°C+).
  • 410: General corrosion resistance; further surface treatment is required.
  • 420: Higher hardness, wear resistance.

(2) Classification by structure

  • 1×7: single strand 7 wires, simple structure, strong rigidity.
  • 1×19: single strand 19 wires, higher strength, medium flexibility.
  • 7×7: 7 strands 7 wires, good flexibility, fatigue resistance.
  • 7×19: 7 strands 19 wires, super flexibility, bending resistance.
  • 7×37: 7 strands, 37 wires per strand (composed of finer wires), excellent flexibility, suitable for complex bending.
  • 19×7: 19 strands, 7 wires per strand. Super high strength + anti-rotation.
  • Core steel cable: A fiber core (such as polypropylene) is added to the center to enhance flexibility.

(3) Classification by surface treatment

  • Bright surface: beautiful and rust-proof.
  • Galvanized stainless steel cable: enhanced corrosion resistance.
  • PVC coating: The outer layer is coated with PVC or PE, which is scratch-proof, corrosion-resistant, and insulated.

(4) Classification by twisting direction

  • Cross twist: Ordinary twist – the strand twist direction is opposite to the wire twist direction. General type, good anti-loosening.
  • Same direction twist: The strand twist direction is the same as the wire twist direction. Smoother surface, better flexibility.
  • Composite twist: Anti-rotation, multi-layer reverse twist. Prevent rotation, used for hoisting equipment.
