FAQs

1. Difference between concrete nails and common nails

First of all, what is the meaning of concrete nails? It is a nail made of hardened steel, especially used for masonry in the construction field.

The main difference between the two is the material. Ordinary nails for wood are usually of soft, low-carbon, or “mild” steel (about 0.1% carbon, the rest iron, and perhaps a trace of silicon or manganese). Nails for concrete are harder, with 0.5–0.75% carbon.

2. What is the difference between a finishing nail and a common nail?

There is a clear difference in their appearance. Finishing nails are lighter than regular nails and have a smaller head. They are generally used in places where you don’t want the nail head to show, such as installing paneling or trim. They have a thinner shank, which reduces the chance of splitting the wood, making them a perfect choice for fine woodwork and handmade furniture.

3. Common Nail VS Box Nail

“Common” nails have larger diameter shanks than the box, cooler, or sinker nails of the same “penny weight”. The heavy shank allows them to carry higher structural loads. “Box” nails have lighter (smaller diameter) shanks. They were originally designed to reduce splitting when used to assemble wooden “boxes”.
