Z275 Galvanized Steel Properties

Z275 is a galvanized steel coil with a zinc coating of 275 g/m² (approximately 0.90 oz/ft²) as specified by the EN 10346 standard. With the same zinc coating weight as G90, this grade has excellent corrosion resistance and is often used in harsh environments. Mechanical properties include a tensile strength of 270-500 MPa and an elongation of 22-26%.

Dx51D Z100 GI Steel coil

DX51D Z100 indicates a galvanized steel coil for cold forming with medium mechanical properties, in accordance with BS EN 10346:2015. Suitable for general use, the total weight of the zinc coating on both sides is 100 g/m². Z100 has the thinnest zinc coating, at 7 microns, and is intended for indoor use.

 

DX51D Meaning

  • D: Indicates cold forming steel.
  • X: The steel substrate is a common steel grade with “no specific requirements”.
  • 51: Indicates the mechanical properties of the steel, tensile strength: 270-500 MPa, yield strength: 140-300 MPa, elongation: 22% or more.
  • D: Indicates the surface quality grade of the steel, grade D is suitable for general use, and a small number of defects are allowed on the surface.

Z100 Meaning

  • Z: Indicates the zinc coating (Zinc Coating).
  • 100: The total weight of the zinc coating on both sides, in g/m².
  • Z100: The total weight of zinc coating on both sides is 100 g/m², and the weight of zinc coating on one side is 50 g/m². 100 g/m² ≈ 0.33 oz/ft² (both sides).

What does G90 mean? It is a common grade of galvanized steel coil, indicating a zinc coating weight of 0.90 oz/ft2 (275 g/m2), equivalent to Z275, a grade with excellent corrosion resistance and widespread use, with a focus on the construction and automotive sectors.

Other grades include G30, G40, G60, and Z100, each with a different zinc coating weight and corresponding level of corrosion resistance.

What is the difference between G90 galvanized and G185 galvanized?

The number after the letter G represents the total weight of the zinc layer on both sides of the steel plate, which is measured in ounces per square foot (oz/ft²).

G90 is the coating thickness specified in the A653 standard, indicating a zinc layer weight of 0.90 oz/ft², 0.45 oz/ft2 per side, and G185 means 1.85 oz/ft².

Its service life is about twice that of G90 galvanized steel.

Cold rolling is a process based on hot rolled coils. Generally speaking, the process is hot rolling → pickling → cold rolling. Cold rolling, which is formed by continuous cold deformation of hot rolling, has poor mechanical properties and too high hardness. It must be annealed to restore its mechanical properties. The coil without annealing is called a hard rolled coil.
