Customer Background

The customer and Our Group had a simple conversation at first. He said that he mainly supplied raw materials, namely steel wire rods, to the construction, bridge, and power industries in the local area. He also said that he also supplied wire rods to some local parts processing factories, such as screw factories, for the production of nuts, pins, screws, rivets, etc.

After several video chats with us, the customer wanted to see the factory, so we showed the customer our steel wire production workshop through video chat. The customer saw our wire rod mill, wire rod reel, and other wire processing equipment, and finally recognized our capabilities and strengths, and then reached a cooperation agreement.

What is steel wire rod?

The Steel wire rod is a steel product made by hot rolling or cold drawing. It is usually in the shape of a long strip with a relatively small diameter of several millimeters to tens of millimeters. It is sold in coils and is gray-black or black in color. According to its material, use, and manufacturing process, it can be divided into many types, such as alloy structural steel round rods, cold heading steel wire, etc.

What is the steel wire rod used for?

It is mostly used as a base material for other products but is also widely used in many fields. The following are some general examples:

1. Used to produce metal products such as wire mesh, wire rope, and steel strands.

2. Used to make various springs, such as automobile suspension springs and engine valve springs.

3. Make fasteners such as bolts, nuts, and washers.

4. Used to reinforce reinforced concrete structures, and to make scaffolding, protective nets, etc.

5. Make drive shafts, gears, chains, wire cores, etc.

6. Make various artworks and crafts, such as metal sculptures, metal braids, etc.

Composition of steel wire rod

Since there are many types of steel wire rods, their composition varies from type to type. The following are some common types and compositions of steel wire rods and simple examples for your reference.

 

1. Carbon Steel Wire Rod

Carbon steel wire is a type of steel wire rod, the main components of which are iron (Fe) and carbon (C), and may contain a small amount of silicon (Si), manganese (Mn), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S) and other alloying elements.

Different grades of carbon steel wire have different chemical compositions, for example:

1) B-CH1T: C content ≤0.010%, Mn content ≤0.35%, P content ≤0.030%, S content ≤0.035%, and may contain a small amount of Alt, Ti and other elements.

2) SAE 1006: C content ≤0.08%, Mn content between 0.25~0.40%, P content ≤0.030%, S content ≤0.050%.

3) SAE 1008: C content ≤0.10%, Mn content between 0.30~0.50%, P content ≤0.030%, S content ≤0.050%.

4) SWRCH series (such as SWRCH6A, SWRCH8A, etc.): The contents of elements such as C, Si, Mn, P, S, etc. are within a certain range, and may also contain a small amount of elements such as Alt, etc.

 

2. Alloy Steel Wire Rod

Alloy steel wire rod is made of carbon steel with other alloying elements (such as chromium Cr, molybdenum Mo, nickel Ni, etc.) added to improve its mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. These steel wires of different grades have different chemical compositions, for example:

1) ML20Cr: C content is between 0.17~0.23%, Si content ≤0.30%, Mn content is between 0.60~0.90%, P content ≤0.035%, S content ≤0.035%, Cr content is between 0.90~1.20%.

2) ML40Cr: C content is between 0.38~0.45%, Si content ≤0.30%, Mn content is between 0.60~0.90%, P content ≤0.035%, S content ≤0.035%, Cr content is between 0.90~1.20%.

3) SCM415: C content is between 0.13~0.18%, Si content is between 0.15~0.35%, Mn content is between 0.60~0.90%, P content is ≤0.030%, S content is ≤0.030%, Cr content is between 0.90~1.20%, and it also contains a small amount of Mo element.

 

3. Special Ingredients Steel Wire Rod

For example, high carbon steel wire rods usually contain a higher C content (0.65%~1.20%), as well as appropriate amounts of Si, Mn, and other elements to obtain good drawing properties and strength.
