Diameter Selection

The primary basis for selecting the diameter is the breaking force, which must meet the designed safety factor. Usually, the safety factor of the key structure is not less than 3:1, that is, the breaking force is at least 3 times the maximum working tension.

Main Structural Types

1×7 Construction

Consists of a single strand of a central wire and six outer strands twisted together. This construction is extremely rigid and resists bending.

1×19 Construction

Consists of a strand of steel wire wrapped around a central wire, using more and finer wires than the 1×7 construction. It offers exceptional rigidity and greater flexibility than the 1×7.

7×7 Construction

The most common type. This construction consists of seven strands of steel rope (each containing seven wires), twisted together. It offers excellent flexibility, making it easy to bend and install while maintaining high strength.

7×19 Construction

Consists of seven strands of steel rope (each containing 19 finer wires). This is the most flexible construction, consisting of a large number of finer wires, making it highly flexible and resistant to fatigue from repeated bending.

Production Process

The process path can be simplified as follows: wire rod → pickling → hot-dip galvanizing → drawing → stranding → (stabilization treatment) → packaging

 

Raw Materials

We carefully select high-quality wire rods (wires). They are pickled to remove surface scale and impurities.

Galvanizing

The steel wire is hot-dip galvanized by passing it through molten zinc. This prevents the strand from rusting.

Drawing

The wire is cold-drawn through dies. This gradually reduces the wire diameter, increasing its strength and toughness to achieve the desired mechanical properties.

Stranding

This is the core step. Multiple galvanized steel wires are spirally twisted around a central wire on a dedicated stranding machine, depending on the design.

Stabilization

While stabilization (pre-tensioning) is optional, some products may be pre-stretched. This eliminates internal stresses in the cable, reduces elongation, and provides greater dimensional stability.

Winding & Packaging

Finally, the finished galvanized stranded wire is wound onto a spool or coil and packaged in appropriate rust-proof packaging, such as waterproof paper or plastic film.

Q1: How to choose between galvanized guy wire and stainless steel guy wire?

Galvanized guy wire is the preferred choice as it is economical, strong, and suitable for most environments, offering the best value for money. 304/316 stainless steel guy wire is only recommended for use in extreme corrosion scenarios with sufficient budget.

Q2: What is the expected service life of galvanized steel strand?

The lifespan of Z275 galvanized wire ropes depends largely on the environment. In mild rural environments, the lifespan may exceed 30 years, and in heavily industrial or coastal areas, it may be around 10-15 years.

Q3: How much tension is required during installation?

Tensioning force must be determined by a structural engineer based on calculations of wind loads, ice loads, and other factors. Arbitrary adjustment is strictly prohibited. Initial tension is typically set at 10%-20% of the breaking force and calibrated using a tension dynamometer to ensure uniform tension across the entire group of cables.
