Common types
1. Classification by Alloy Series
Internationally, international grades (such as AA 6061) or Chinese grades (such as 6061) are commonly used. They are primarily categorized as follows:
(1) 1xxx Series: Pure aluminum rods, offering excellent conductivity, corrosion resistance, and workability, but lower strength. Typical grade: 1060, 1070.
(2) 2xxx Series: Aluminum-copper alloys, offering high hardness and strength, classified as aviation-grade duralumin, but with poor corrosion resistance. Typical grades: 2011, 2017, 2024.
(3) 6xxx Series: Aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloys, the most commonly used series. They offer excellent overall performance, with medium strength, good corrosion resistance, weldability, and ease of processing. Typical grades: 6061, 6063, 6082.
(4) 7xxx Series: Aluminum-zinc-magnesium alloys, ultra-high-strength alloys, typically used in applications requiring high strength, but with slightly lower stress corrosion resistance. Typical grade: 7075.
2. Classification by Shape
(1) Round Aluminum Bar: The most common type, used for manufacturing shafts, sleeves, bolts, etc.
(2) Square Aluminum Bar: Square cross-section.
(3) Hexagonal Aluminum Bar: Regular hexagonal cross-section, commonly used for manufacturing nuts, wrenches, etc.
(4) Flat Aluminum Bar: Rectangular cross-section, commonly used for framing, trim, and structural support.

3. Classification by Production Process and Bar Type
(1) Extruded Bar: Hot extrusion is used to form the bar, the most common manufacturing process.
(2) Rolled Bar: Rolled using a rolling mill.
(3) Temper:
- O Temper: Annealed. Annealing results in the material reaching its softest state, offering excellent workability and ease of bending and forming, but with the lowest strength.
- T4 Temper: Solution treated, naturally hardens at room temperature. Offers good formability and moderate strength.
- T5 Temper: Cooled from the high extrusion temperature and then artificially aged. Strength is higher than T4 Temper, with good dimensional stability and a reasonable surface quality.
- T6 Temper: Solution treated and fully artificially aged, achieving the highest strength. This is the most widely used and offers excellent overall performance.
- T651 Temper: Based on the T6 Temper, tensile stress relief treatment is applied to effectively reduce post-processing deformation, making it suitable for high-precision and precision machining.

Production Process
Alloy smelting and casting → Homogenization → Extrusion or hot rolling → Heat treatment → Finishing and testing → Finished aluminum bars
Melting and casting
Aluminum ingots are melted and mixed with alloying elements, then cast into cylindrical ingots.
Hot working & forming
The extrusion process is primarily used, where pressure is applied to a die to directly achieve the desired cross-sectional shape. Rolling is also used as a supplementary process.
Heat treatment & strengthening
Solution treatment and aging treatments significantly improve the strength, hardness, and other mechanical properties of the aluminum bars.
Finishing & testing
Fine processing, such as straightening, cutting, and surface treatment, is performed, and rigorous quality assurance is ensured.
